FARMERS INSURANCE HAWAII UNVEILS TRAFFIC SAFETY KARAOKE CONTEST
Calling Performers to Sing Along to an Original Song written and composed by Jake Shimabukuro
HONOLULU – Farmers Insurance Hawaii is calling aspiring performers statewide to help promote safe driving and pedestrian safety through a fun and entertaining public service campaign. The public is invited to enter the Farmers Insurance Hawaii Traffic Safety Karaoke Contest by singing along to an original song written and composed by ukulele virtuoso, Jake Shimabukuro, entitled "Slow Down." One grand prize winner will receive a $500 Apple gift card. A "fan favorite" winner will be decided by public vote and will receive $200 in gas gift cards. The public is invited to send in their submissions throughout the duration of the contest from July 9-July 30, 2012 by visiting www.myfarmershawaii.com/karaoke.
"Keeping Hawaii's streets safe for everyone is something Farmers Insurance Hawaii takes very seriously," said Michele Saito, president of Farmers Insurance Hawaii Operations. "Through this contest, we are hoping to provide a unique, fun and memorable event that fosters awareness and encourages everyone in Hawaii to take an active part in driving safer and obeying traffic laws."
"Traffic safety is a serious matter, but reminding people to drive safe and with aloha in a fun, musical way can be quite effective," said Jake Shimabukuro.
Entrants will be provided with lyrics, sheet music, MP3 of Shimabukuro's original composition and a karaoke style video, which they can use to create an entertaining "sing along" karaoke performance. Audio or video submissions will be accepted. All submissions should be a strong representation of the entrant's vocal talent, and should be family friendly, and creatively promote traffic safety.
A judging panel will review all entries and will select the grand prize winner. All entries will be posted online at www.myfarmershawaii.com/karaoke from August 1-August 8, 2012, and the public will have a chance to vote for the "fan favorite" winner. The winner will be determined by the entry receiving the most "likes" as of 3:00 p.m. on August 8, 2012. The winning entries will be announced on August 21, 2012 on the Farmers Insurance Hawaii Facebook and Twitter pages and on www.myfarmershawaii.com.
The first five entrants who meet contest criteria will receive a $25 gas card. All entrants who meet the contest criteria will receive an autographed copy of Jake Shimabukuro's CD "Peace Love Ukulele." Entrants must be legal Hawaii residents and are required to have consent from their parent or adult guardian to participate if under the age of 18.
