FARMERS INSURANCE HAWAII RECEIVES FREEDOM AWARD NOMINEE CERTIFICATE FOR SUPPORT OF CITIZEN SOLDIERS
In honor and tribute of excellence in supporting citizen soldiers, Farmers Insurance Hawaii has been nominated for the prestigious 2010 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, and will be presented with an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Freedom Award Nominee Certificate in recognition of its nomination.
"Farmers Insurance Hawaii recognizes the great sacrifice our military service members make, and we are committed to helping our military employees as well as customers by offering support, discounts and benefits for military personnel and their families stationed here in Hawaii," said Michele Saito, president of Farmers Insurance Hawaii. "We are honored to receive this prestigious and meaningful nomination, and will continue to do whatever we can to assist Hawaii's military service members."
The Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. This will be the first year nominee certificates will be awarded to publicly recognize employers who provide the most outstanding support for their National Guard and Reserve employees.
Nominations for this award must come from a Guard or Reserve service member who is employed by the organization they are nominating, or from a family member. Farmers Insurance Hawaii was nominated by employee Ricky Graham, who works as an IT Analyst and is also a member of the United States Air Force Reserve - 48th Aerial Port Squadron, 624th Regional Support Group, Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Hawaii. Graham was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom for one year, during which time Farmers Insurance Hawaii continued all of his salary and benefits. In addition to sending off Graham with a company event that ended up garnering local media coverage, Farmers Insurance Hawaii kept in contact with Graham throughout his absence with letters, emails, phone calls, and care packages that included items from the company as well as individual co-workers. At the conclusion of his one year in Iraq, Farmers Insurance Hawaii allowed Graham to continue his deployment for an additional 10 months to serve in Qatar and Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon returning to Hawaii, Graham was given a promotion and salary increase, and was welcomed back with a company celebration.
In addition to supporting its military employees, Farmers Insurance Hawaii offers military discounts and benefits for customers and their families stationed in Hawaii through its Farmers Military Advantage program. This program, among other things, provides for additional discounts with promotions in rank, and allows for a Temporary Accommodation Auto Policy, which suspends the auto policy while the customer is deployed.
