FARMERS INSURANCE HAWAII ANNOUNCES WINNER OF TRAFFIC SAFETY KARAOKE CONTEST

HONOLULU – Farmers Insurance Hawaii today announced the winner of the Farmers Insurance Hawaii Traffic Safety Karaoke contest. The grand prize winner is Sheri Miller, from Honolulu, who sang along to the original song entitled "Slow Down," written and composed by ukulele virtuoso, Jake Shimabukuro. Miller's stylistic and creative video along with her strong vocal talent earned her the grand prize award of a $500 Apple gift card, $25 gas gift card, and an autographed copy of Jake Shimabukuro's CD "Peace Love Ukulele."

A "fan favorite" winner was also decided by public vote. Rina Mersburgh, from Ewa Beach, is this year's Farmers Hawaii Traffic Safety Karaoke contest "fan favorite" winner and was awarded $200 in gas gift cards.

Farmers Insurance Hawaii sends out warm congratulations to both winners and a sincere mahalo to all the entrants. "We were extremely pleased with the excellent talent of all the entrants," said Wenli Lin, Director of Marketing for Farmers Insurance Hawaii. "Improving traffic and pedestrian safety is the core initiative for Farmers Insurance Hawaii, and we are thrilled to see that so many people are joining us in the campaign to make Hawaii's streets safer for everyone," Lin said.

Entrants were provided with lyrics, sheet music, MP3 of Shimabukuro's original composition and a karaoke style video to create an entertaining "sing along" karaoke performance that encouraged safe driving or pedestrian safety.

The contest ran from July 9-August 8, 2012. A judging panel reviewed all entries and selected the grand prize winner. All entries were posted online at www.myfarmershawaii.com/karaoke from August 9-August 16, 2012, where the public had a chance to vote for the "fan favorite" winner. The "fan favorite" was determined by the entry receiving the most "likes."
