FARMERS INSURANCE HAWAII URGES COMMUNITY TO PLEDGE TO KEEP HAWAII ROADS SAFE DURING HOLIDAY SEASON

HONOLULU – This holiday season, Farmers Insurance Hawaii urges Hawaii drivers to pledge to help make our roads safer. Partnering with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Farmers Hawaii kicks off its annual "Be Prepared, Don't Drive Impaired" campaign today to encourage drivers to make a personal commitment to be safe drivers.

The "Be Prepared, Don't Drive Impaired" campaign is an online pledge for Hawaii drivers to commit to not drink and drive, volunteer to be a designated driver, and keep others who are impaired off the road by helping them make arrangements to get home safely.

For each pledge that is made, Farmers Hawaii will donate $1 to MADD up to $2,000. In addition, those who pledge will be entered into weekly drawings for a chance to win $50 gas cards. To take the pledge, please visit www.myfarmershawaii.com/drivesafe.

37% of all traffic-related deaths in Hawaii are caused by DUI drivers. So far this year, there have been 42 alcohol related fatalities on Hawaii’s roads. In addition, drunk-driving arrests in Hawaii in 2012 have already outpaced that of 2011.

"The holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Year's can be one of the most dangerous times on our roads due to an increase in drunk driving," said Wenli Lin, Director of Marketing of Farmers Insurance Hawaii. "With the holiday season upon us, Farmers Hawaii is encouraging drivers to pledge and commit to be responsible drivers. Together, we can make Hawaii's roads safer for everyone during the holiday season."
