25 Teachers Statewide to Receive Gift Baskets of Appreciation Filled with Classroom Supplies by Farmers Insurance Hawaii

Employees of Local Insurer Have Been Gathering Supplies and Donations to Leverage Efforts of National Thank A Million Teachers Program

HONOLULU, HI ó Farmers Insurance Hawaii, one of the leading insurers in Hawaii, will be delivering gift baskets of classroom supplies to 25 deserving teachers on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii island, beginning today. Local representatives of the insurance company will be presenting the baskets over the next several days to show their appreciation to the islandsí educators and to continue raising awareness about the nationwide effort to recognize educators through the Thank A Million Teachers national program launched by Farmers Insurance at the beginning of the year.

"We, at Farmers Insurance Hawaii, appreciate all that our local teachers do to make a difference in the lives of our keiki," said Melanie Joseph, marketing manager for Farmers Insurance Hawaii. "We are providing these gift baskets to provide educators with some basic classroom materials and resources to support their efforts of helping our youth succeed."

During May, the insurer's employees nominated local teachers who have made a difference in their lives or the lives of their families to receive a teacher appreciation gift basket of classroom supplies. Since July, the employees have collected 3,000 various classroom supplies and $1,900 in monetary donations to fill the teacher appreciation baskets.

Items in the appreciation baskets include supplies that teachers would often purchase from their own funds for their classroom. The baskets will help offset the average $1,000 that studies have found teachers spend annually from their own pockets on classroom supplies. Items found in the teacher appreciation baskets include; pencils, crayons, paper clips, rubber bands, reward stickers, cleaning wipes, paper towels, facial tissue, liquid soap, hand sanitizers, and other items.

Since the beginning of the year, nearly 750,000 thank-yous have been received for teachers on the www.ThankAMillionTeachers.com website. The ThankAMillionTeachers.com website is continuously accepting the publicís thank yous and posts a live tally of the number of thank yous received thus far. It is also the place where teachers can submit their proposals for the chance to win grants of $2,500.
