FARMERS INSURANCE HAWAII PARTNERS WITH DOLE MIDDLE SCHOOL TO BEAUTIFY CAMPUS, CELEBRATE 55TH ANNIVERSARY
Farmers Insurance Hawaii celebrated its 55th anniversary today by partnering with Governor Sanford B. Dole Middle School for a joint anniversary celebration and Earth Day beautification on the school's campus in Kalihi.
"We are both pleased and excited to be able to celebrate 55 years of serving the people of Hawaii by partnering with Dole Middle School and giving back to the community," said Michele Saito, president of Farmers Insurance Hawaii. "Both Farmers Insurance Hawaii and Dole Middle School have been a part of the community for 55 years, so it made sense to celebrate this milestone by coming together and doing something that will benefit the students and future generations for many years to come."
To commemorate the occasion, Farmers Insurance Hawaii made a donation of 55 trees, hedge plants and greenery to be placed throughout the campus, with employee volunteers partnering up with Dole Middle School students and staff to participate in the campus beautification. The plants will not only spruce up the campus, but will also help to mitigate storm water runoff around the school, Dole administrators noted. The hope is that the joint beautification event helps to instill school pride in the students and give them the opportunity to participate in something good for the environment in anticipation of Earth Day.
The celebration and service event kicked off with a ceremonial planting by Michele Saito and Arnie Kikkawa, principal of Dole Middle School, and also included the announcement of Farmers Insurance Hawaii's "What Will Hawaii Look Like in 55 Years?" poster contest, open to Dole students. Winners who submit the most creative depiction of the contest theme will win prizes and have their posters on display at the Farmers Insurance Hawaii's office in Restaurant Row, as well as company's customer Web site, www.myfarmershawaii.com.
To commemorate the occasion, Farmers Insurance Hawaii also awarded Dole Middle School with a donation of $550, which they put toward the school’s Hawaii State Assessment (HSA) awards day. The money will help to offset transportation costs and various student incentive awards and enrichment activities.
